3. All Aboard

The list of things I’d like to do in my lifetime just keeps getting bigger and bigger. Here’s my latest addition…a trip onboard the Maharajas Express in India.

It has five carriages for Deluxe Cabins, six for Junior Suites, two for Suites and one for grand Presidential Suite. Each cabin is fitted with a huge window for an enviable view of the country outside. Luxuriously decorated, all the Cabins offer individual temperature controls, the first of its kind in India and state-of-the-art facilities such LCD televisions, DVD’s players, telephone and Internet etc. Other on board facilities include a bar with refined interiors and laid back ambience, an observation lounge with library and personal bar and if that wasn't enough they even have a high-end boutique!!

With world class amenities, exquisitely designed interiors, gastronomic dining and vibrant on board ambience, this luxurious train offers the height of comfort and a new experience for many.

There are many luxurious trains in the world, but the recently renovated Maharajas is the latest and most luxurious train in India and its no wonder its found itself listed amongst the top 25 trains in the world. It offers 3 fascinating routes of breathtaking landscapes, culture and heritage across India. Maharajas Express journeys are invariably suffused with romance, adventure and style.

So will I ever get to experience this trip, well I’ll definitely keep dreaming about it !! The art of positive thinking usually works in my favor !!

...In the mean time to experience a similar atmosphere you can take a trip to The Glenlo Abbey Hotel in Galway and visit their Pullman Restaurant aboard the Orient Express. http://www.glenlo.com/dining/pullman-restaurant Here you can dine on board this 1st class carriage with its richness of wood, marqueterie and brass-work which reflect the décor of the time and offer a truly unique dining experience. I did eat in this restaurant a couple of years back and the atmosphere is second to none, and you really do feel like you’re experiencing a little piece of history.

2. The Dream Interior

(as featured on mindhives website)

Interior Design is like fashion, constantly changing and evolving. An addiction to some where we constantly strive to find that dream space that we just don’t want to leave.

How many people do we know who are constantly changing rooms and updating their home? Lots!! They are all on that quest to find the Dream Interior.

So what’s the golden rule to that perfect Interior? I believe that there is no single Golden Rule in Interior Design. It’s down to personal choice and each individual is entitled to their own taste and it’s this personal taste that helps create that perfect Interior...the Dream Interior that is as unique as the individual.

So here are a few helpful tips to help you create your Dream Interior.

Firstly, know your taste. Spend time looking through interior design magazines, newspapers, books etc and make cuttings of things you like. Even take photographs of things that appeal to you. Stick them in a scrap book. Soon you’ll see a style appear; - country, period, classic, contemporary, urban, eclectic or even a mix of styles.

Secondly, look at your room. Are there any items which you need to keep? These may affect your room layout so it’s important that you look at this. You then need to look at the Function of your space. Who will use it? How much seating is required? Do you need extra storage? Do you need an office area? Will the room need to have a dual function?

Look at your lighting. Does your space require mood lighting or task lighting; - reading, picture lights etc. Do you want pendants, recessed lighting or directional lighting?

Colour is very important and you will need to spend time choosing the right colour. Psychology of colour is very interesting and it’s good to look at colour and how it makes you feel. Not every colour suits the function of every room.

Create a mood board, stick pictures of the items you’d like in your room. Have samples of your curtain and upholstery fabric. Include pictures of your paint colour, flooring, light fittings and pictures of your chosen accessories. You should see your Dream Interior come alive before your very eyes.

Next step is to implement it...but that’s another blog!!

So for more advice on Interior Design enrol on one of our courses. All courses are customised to enable you to create your own Dream Interior.
